Croatia Formally uses the Euro as its Main Currency

On January 1, 2023, European time zone, Croatia officially becomes a member of the Eurozone market after ten years of joining as a member of the European Union. With this new status, they will eliminate the Croatian Kuna and fully use the EuroEuro.

As of January 1, Croatians who use Croatian Kuna will be forced to drop the habit and convert them into Euros. European Currency will try to be used for two weeks alongside the Kuna to become a currency market transition period.

Croatia's Prime Minister, Andrej Plenkovic, said that 2022 is the year of delivery for Croatia as the country finally was accepted into both the Eurozone and the Schengen border-free area with unanimous support from its EU partner and support within the country.

Plenkovic also said that to realize this status so that it becomes more mature, they have amended more than 80 laws. But the use of the EuroEuro is the most crucial part. So, this will be a new chapter for Croatian citizens and 19 other eurozone countries.

New Chapters for Croatian as they Will Use Euro and Join the Free-Movement Area

"This marks an important milestone in the history of Croatia, of the EuroEuro, and the Schengen areas. It follows a period of intensive preparation and substantial efforts by Croatia to meet all the requirements," said the European Commission.

The limit for using Kuna is the next two weeks, and when the transition period is over, the Kuna currency will be destroyed, and the Kuna banknotes will decrease. This is their way of avoiding negative environmental impact from the dye and protective element.

Commercial banks have also received Euro banknotes and coins in advance from the central bank. This is so they can more quickly supply euro cash to shops and other businesses. Euro coins have also been produced by Croatia starting in July 2022.

The motives for the local euro coins were tender and the sale of the money starter kits on December 1. In this regard, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen also praised Croatia's steps when speaking before the Croatian Prime Minister, Andrej Plenkovic.

He said: "There is no place in Europe where it is more true today that it is a season of beginnings and new chapters than here at the border between Croatia and Slovenia. Nothing is the same after this,"

However, the adoption of the EuroEuro provides facts when a long campaign demonstrating the Croatian economic management, including how they dealt with the pandemic, gave Croatian the European Identity, and the ECB became a rely on the Croatian afterwards.

Apart from that, Croatia is also the 27th nation in the Schengen zone, the world's largest passport-free travel area, and it enables more than 400 million people to move freely around its members. And this is fantastic news for tourism for both parties.

20th Member of the Eurozone and ECB Send this Message About Interesting Euro

"The EuroEuro was already a value measure, and it's nothing new. Schengen is fantastic news for tourism, and this is also what makes the Eurozone a desirable market," said a Croatian economist, Marko Pavic, regarding Croatia's joining the European elite club.

Christine Lagarde also welcomed Croatia as the 20th Member of the Euro zone and praised the success of the Croatian Central Bank is working to adopt the EuroEuro. It is a fine start to 2023, and she is delighted to see Croatia's development after adopting the Euro.

Croatia marks 2023 with the adoption of the EuroEuro as its official Currency. After ten years of joining EU membership, the Eurozone is also the right market for Croatia. For this reason, the Euro currency can become the official trading medium for the Croatian.
